Maria Cynthia Doreza Hartsaw

Maria Cynthia Doreza Hartsaw passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the afternoon of July 3, 2023 at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Cynthia, who was affectionately called “Inday”, was born to Francisco Sr. and Nelia Doreza on October 7, 1953 in Iloilo, Philippines and was one of the two girls among nine siblings. As a young girl, she was always curious, had the passion for learning and excelled on everything she put her mind into. Cynthia completed a Nursing degree at St. Paul College of Iloilo and migrated to Michigan soon after where she started her career and met her husband, Tom. After 10 years in healthcare, she decided to pursue a degree on Information Technology at Madonna University and worked for Ford Motor Company until her retirement in 2019. Cynthia’s cheerful and outgoing personality was captivating to family and friends alike. She found pleasure in the simplest of things such as her afternoon walks in the park, a delicious cup of ice cream, an article about random things that sparked her interest for the day, a good action film and an hour (or two) long conversations on the phone with people dear to her. God blessed her with a big personality and an even bigger heart. In times of need, Cynthia never hesitated on extending a helping hand nor failed to remind us to be optimistic and focus on the solution rather than the problem. She was strong-willed and fearless yet she was also kind, thoughtful and generous. Cynthia was a devoted mother, a loving wife, a caring sister, a supportive aunt and a loyal friend. Her steadfast faith to God until the very end is an inspiration to us all. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas Hartsaw; her only son, Justin Hartsaw; her brothers Abelardo (Nancy), Francisco Jr. (Loretta), Edgar (Leah), Dennis (Rodette), Benito (Cora), Henry (Carmela) & Irwin (Lizabelle); and 10 nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home (980 N. Newburgh Rd., Westland, MI 48185) on July 12, 2023 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. In state 9:30am until the 10am funeral mass on July 13, 2023 at the Church of the Divine Child (1055 North Silvery Lane, Dearborn, MI 48128) and she will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (25800 W 10 Mile Rd., Southfield MI) thereafter.
