Jean A. Bologna

Bologna, Jean A. March 18, 2019 age 93 of Plymouth. Beloved wife of the late Giacomo “Jack” Bologna. Loving mother of James (Kimberly), Michael (Lydia), Anne (Al) Munro, Mary Beth (John) Powers, Paul (Tina), and Janine (Robert) Velasco. Proud Oma of twenty two grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Dear sister of M. Ann Purrenhage. Preceded in death by dear sister Ruth Duquette, dear sister Rita Bryson, dear sister Mary Weston and dear brother John Kolar. Mrs. Bologna was born in Detroit, Mich. on Jan. 21, 1926. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and then a secretarial school. At the end of World War II she served in the United States Naval Reserve, also known as the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). She worked in various professional capacities for the U.S. government through the Internal Revenue Service. Mrs. Bologna married Giacomo Bologna on Feb. 16, 1957 and they shared 49 years of marriage. Mrs. Bologna was a dedicated wife and mother, maintaining a nurturing home life during her husband’s ambitious career as a federal civil servant, author and university professor. Mrs. Bologna followed her husband’s career during postings in Washington DC, New Orleans, La., and Nashville, Tenn. In 1972 Mrs. Bologna and her husband moved to her beloved home in Plymouth, Mich., where she lived until the time of her death. Mrs. Bologna was a prolific artist throughout her life. She took dozens of art classes, taught art, belonged to several arts organizations, and was a founding member of Three Cities Art Club. She mastered several different painting disciplines including water color, acrylics, and batik. During Giacomo Bologna’s academic career at Sienna Heights University in Adrian, Mich., Mrs. Bologna took advantage of a free tuition program for family members and enrolled in every art course offered by the institution. Mrs. Bologna was also a prolific gardener and an observer of nature throughout her life. She planted abundant vegetable gardens each spring and viewed vine-ripened tomatoes and tender string beans as true embodiments of God’s presence on Earth. She showed equal passion for the annual and perennial plants that surrounded her home. Her year began with the arrival of crocuses, tulips and daffodils, and the blossoming of her beloved cherry tree. Her springs and summers were punctuated with the cultivation of Bachelor Buttons, Black Eyed Susans, Coneflowers, Cosmos, Dahlias and Zinnias. Mrs. Bologna planted milkweed to attract Monarch butterflies. She watched the miraculous transformation of tiny caterpillars into beautiful Monarchs and took joy in the knowledge that these gentle creatures were sturdy and bold enough to migrate thousands of miles to Mexico. Mrs. Bologna was a member of many religious, arts and civic organizations. She attended mass frequently at Resurrection Catholic Parish, Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church and St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In addition to her affiliation with Three Cities Art Club, she was an active member of the Contemporary Issues Club at the Livonia Senior Citizens Center. More than anything else, Mrs. Bologna was a devoted and loving wife to her husband Giacomo Bologna, who passed away on March 10, 2006. She was equally devoted to her six children, 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild. In state Saturday, March 23rd, 9:30 AM until the 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at Resurrection Catholic Church, 48755 Warren Road, Canton. Memorials may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. 1820 Mt.
