In Loving Memory of Susan A. Long August 4, 1956 – April 2, 2025 Susan A. Long, age 68, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Plymouth, Michigan. Born on August 4, 1956, in Detroit, she was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Irene (Mazurek) Dever. Susan graduated from Mercy High School in 1974, and her life was defined by a deep and abiding love for her faith, her family, and the children whose lives she touched through her work in education. On May 17, 1980, she married the love of her life, Gregory Long, at St. Aidan Catholic Church. Together, they built a life centered around kindness, service, and unwavering devotion to their family. Susan dedicated her career to nurturing young minds, working at Our Lady of Good Counsel Grade School and Livonia Little Tots Preschool, where her warmth and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on generations of students. A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Susan lived her faith daily through compassion, grace, and humility. Her greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Greg, and her children: Jennifer (nee Long) Lechota, and Michael Long (Denise Sutter-Long), and her cherished grandchildren: Rebecca, Zachary, Jacqueline, Benjamin, Eleanor, Mary, and Henry. She is also survived by her brother, James Dever, and was preceded in death by her brother John Dever. When she wasn’t cheering on her children and grandchildren from the sidelines or the front row, Susan was a passionate fan of the University of Michigan and all of the Detroit sports teams. She enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, and—true to her sweet and humorous nature—would often double-check with her family to make sure she was rooting for the right team. That loving attention to detail was just one of the many ways she brought joy and laughter into every room she entered. Susan had the rare gift of making everyone feel like family. Her warm smile, comforting words, and boundless love made her a guiding light in the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and unconditional love will continue to shine through her family and all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Solanus Casey Center, organizations dear to Susan’s heart. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 4 PM until 9 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (between Sheldon and Beck) Plymouth. Rosary service 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 7th, with Susan lying in state from 10 AM until the 10:30 AM Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road, Plymouth.
