Stephen Phillip Norman

Stephen Phillip Norman – a teacher to hundreds, a mentor to many, and a friend to all, passed away on November 28, 2021 in Farmington Hills, Michigan, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and children. He was 59. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan January 26, 1962 to Phil and Ruth Norman. He is preceded in death by his father, Phil (Donna) Norman. He is survived by his mother, Ruth and siblings Tim (Catherine) Norman and Beth (Don) Kobeck. Educated at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan earning a Bachelor of Business Administration, he received his Master of Divinity from Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan and Steve was ordained as a Minister in 1995. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring wife Nadine and their children Amanda and Joshua. Steve was a devoted and faithful husband, father, son and son-in-law. Although ministry was important to Steve, he always kept his relationship with God, his marriage, and family first. Steve grew up in the church. When he was 21, he gave his life to the Lord and shortly after that, while serving as Director of Acts of Apostles, received his call from God to enter full time work in youth ministry. It was during his time in seminary that God refocused and broadened his scope of ministry to that of congregational pastor while always ministering in some capacity with youth. Steve loved ministry, loved sharing the gospel through preaching and teaching the Word, and related well to people of all ages. He was a roll-up-your-sleeves type of pastor, walking and working alongside those whom he served. He was never afraid to get his hands dirty and lived his life as a model of Christ, patterned after Jesus’ model to us. Those in the congregations he served said he had a special gift of being able to communicate the gospel in a relatable and practical way that spurred them on to grow deeper in their walk with the Lord. Throughout his time serving as pastor of various churches, he always had a special place in his heart for ministering to the next generation of youth and constantly sought new ways to reach them with the news that Jesus loves them and has an incredible plan and purpose for their lives. Steve has served in ministry at Rose Park Reformed Church, Holland Michigan, Fellowship Reformed Church, Muskegon, Michigan, Fellowship Reformed Church, Holland, Michigan, Associate Pastor, Forest Grove Reformed Church, Hudsonville, Michigan, Pastor, Church of the Redeemer, Royal Oak, Michigan, Interim Co-Pastor, Crosswinds Community Church, Canton, Michigan and Church Planter and Pastor, Crossroads Church, Livonia, Michigan. Steve was a teacher at COVE Homeschooling Association for three years and was the board president of H.E.M.A Band, 6 years (Homeschool Educators Music Association). Most recently he was the chaplain and a board member for Trail Life USA Troop 711, actor and marketing team member with Pocket Parables Production Company, and assistant to Thurlow Spurr as well as a drama instructor at Concert Ministries, Inc. Steve truly fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith! (2 Timothy 4:7) No truer words will ever be spoken about Steve. Steve’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with as well as those he reached but never met. He was a man who loved God, his family, and lived like Jesus in all that he did. A Celebration of Life Service to remember Steve will be held on Saturday, January 15 at Crossroads Church, which meets at His Church Anglican, 34500 W Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
