Roberto Spadoni, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by loved ones in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Born on November 8, 1938, in Montecatini Terme, Italy, to Emilio Spadoni and Isotta Pacini, Roberto lived a life rich with dedication to family, hard work, and community. Growing up during the tumultuous years of World War II, Roberto spent his youth in the picturesque regions of Tuscany and Lombardy, moving between the Pistoia province and Milano while his parents served in the military and worked in the restaurant industry. In 1960, he began his military service in the Italian Air Force, proudly serving as an Airman First Class in Bari, Italy, until his honorable discharge in 1962. After his service, Roberto returned to Milano, where he met the love of his life, Attilia Locatelli. They married on November 9, 1964, in Cremona, Italy. In June of 1970, with dreams of new opportunities, the couple migrated to the United States, settling in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan. Roberto devoted over three decades as a professional waiter at Roma Café, Detroit’s cherished Italian eatery, where he became a familiar face to countless patrons. He retired on his 65th birthday, November 8, 2003, leaving a legacy of warmth and impeccable service. Roberto’s passions extended far beyond the restaurant. He was a skilled bowler, known for achieving numerous perfect 300-point games, and he found great joy in gardening and hunting. Roberto’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Attilia Spadoni; his devoted children, Stefano Spadoni (Virginia Spadoni) and Mirella Spadoni (partner John Coleman); and his treasured grandchildren, Nico Spadoni and Luca Spadoni. He is also lovingly remembered by many friends and former colleagues. Roberto was predeceased by his dear brother, Moreno Spadoni, in 2009. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West, Plymouth. A funeral service to celebrate Roberto’s life will take place on Saturday, November 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mount Elliott St., Detroit, MI 48207, a place close to Roberto’s heart, where he admired the spirit of community service and care.
