Ricardo Gonzalez

Ricardo (Rick) Gonzalez, age 63, passed away September 11, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Rick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the beauty and wonders of nature. He loved spending time with his family, fly fishing, hunting camp, boating and grilling on Big Star Lake, classic films, cars and rock. He enjoyed vetting the perfect movies for his family to watch together after an evening of grilling. Rick also enjoyed motorcycle trips with his brother, Ruben, and driving his 30 year old Suzuki Samurai around town. He was also mechanically inclined. He could fix just about anything; for that reason his family referred to his "MacGyver" talents with appreciation. He was a man of faith with a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe - who always leads us to her son, Jesus. He looked forward to going to Sunday Mass at St. Ann's in Baldwin, Michigan. Everyone knew, "the bus was leaving" for church at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. Rick owned his own automotive restoration business for 15 years in Metro Detroit and recently retired from it to the Big Star Lake area, south of Baldwin, Michigan. Unable to stay retired saying, “retirement was overrated” - he picked up part-time work for the United States Postal Service, where he enjoyed the people and the purpose. He will always be known for his sense of humor, keen wit and ability to talk to anyone about anything for hours on end. Gonzalez, Ricardo September 11, 2022, age 63 of Baldwin, Michigan. Dear brother of Gonzalo Jr. (Lorri), Mari (the late Santiago), Sylvia (Jose Luis), Diana (Carlos), Ruben (Yvette), the late Alba Nellie (Troy) and the late Rene. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday, September 18th 1-8 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 980 N. Newburgh Road (between Ford Road and Cherry Hill) Westland. In state Monday, September 19th 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Mass at the Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit, 1000 St. Anne Street in Detroit.
