Patricia Ann Childs

Sunday October 6, 2024, Patricia Ann (Allwine) Childs passed from this world to the next, just months after celebrating her 90th birthday. She was surrounded by family gathered around her bed, holding her hands, at times singing, and at times crying. Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky" finished playing, she took her last breath and exited stage left to join the angels and go dancing on the other side to celebrate in the after party. Eldest son Steven said it best, family meant everything to her. Her laughter was infectious, her smile would light up the room. She taught her children at a very young age that silliness was always an option, humor would usually rein over seriousness and music will heal and motivate the heart to carry on and do great things in life. And LOVE; we are here to love and love and love and then love some more. Thank you for all of that and more. Say hi to all the family on the other side. Blessings! She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Felix Childs. She is survived by children: Steven (Karen Tyminski) Childs, Richard (Lori) Childs, Roberta (Randy) LeMieux, Lisa (Gavin) Benedict, Theresa (Mark Kinzie) Childs, Christopher (Emily) Childs, & Jason (Denise) Childs. Pat was born August 8, 1934, to Franklin Noble Allwine and Margaret Ann (Higgins) Allwine. Proud grandmother to 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pat was born in Baltimore and spent time in Washington DC, Heidelberg Germany, and San Antonio, Texas in her youth. Her time in Germany, with weekends spent exploring Europe helped to strengthen her love for travel and learning about other cultures. During her time in Livonia the door was always open, and you never knew who would show up at dinnertime to grab a plate and join us. She was known as Mom or Mrs. C to many. It wasn’t unheard of for one of the children to come home to find one of their friends had stopped by to see mom, just to chat. She welcomed several foreign exchange students into her home. Stefaan Missinne, from Belgium, became a second son. Pat and Bob traveled to Austria for his wedding to Andrea, and later to travel around Europe with Stefaan as their tour guide. After all of their children were grown, they moved to Honolulu, HI to care for Pat’s ailing parents. Once they were unencumbered by children or parents to care for, they chose to move to Port Charlotte, FL to live out their lives in the sun and warmth they longed for all the years they tolerated the Michigan climate. While in Hawaii and in Florida, they took many wonderful trips, exploring much of the United States. In 2020, shortly after Bob’s death (2019), Pat moved back to Michigan to be close to family. Pat was active in PTA, and AFS during her years in Michigan. Pat took painting lessons when living in Livonia, and once they had settled in Florida, she rekindled her love of painting. She also enjoyed taking classes in jewelry making while in Florida. She loved to read, amassing a collection of coffee table books as well as fiction and historical literature about native Americans. Pat loved meeting people and made friends everywhere she went. Pat has chosen to donate her body to science.
