Najla Abbosh

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Najla Abbosh on September 20th, at the age of 95. In a heartwarming testament to their enduring love, her departure from this world came on the same date and time as that of her beloved late husband, Henry Abbosh (2021). Born in Baghdad, to Rizkallah and Varte Augustine, Najla's life was a radiant testament to boundless kindness and generosity. Najla's journey took her from Baghdad to Michigan in 1977, in search of a brighter future for her family. In Iraq, she earned a bachelor's in commerce from the University of Baghdad and served as a department head at the Central Bank of Iraq. In Michigan, Najla's days were often filled with watching old movies with Henry, a treasured pastime they shared together. Always the epitome of grace, Najla took great joy in looking her best, showcasing a glamorous fashion sense when out and about or visiting her family and friends. She leaves behind her devoted children, Alia Meroueh (wife of Kamal Meroueh), Reema Abbosh, Jasmine Abbosh (wife of Nadeem Behjet), and Afif Abbosh (husband to Nisreen Abbosh). Her spirit is carried forward by her eight adoring grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Odey Meroueh (husband to Huda Meroueh), Louay Meroueh, Seeneen Meroueh (wife of Hussein Safaoui), Mayseen Meroueh, Malek Odey Meroueh, Rylan Odey Meroueh, Jonathan Henry Abbosh, Grace Mary Abbosh, Nadine Behjet, and Sarah Behjet. Each will fondly remember the gentle warmth and inexhaustible love she graciously offered. A visitation in honor of Najla's life will be held on Saturday, September 23rd, from 9 AM - 11 AM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West, Plymouth, MI 48170 (Between Sheldon and Beck), followed by a Funeral Mass, 12 noon, at St. Toma Syriac Catholic Church, 25600 Drake Road, Farmington Hills. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In commemorating Najla, we celebrate a life characterized by kindness, generosity, and a youthful spirit—whether she was genuinely 95 or playfully adding a touch of mystery to her age in jest with her dear Henry.
