Michael John Stanczyk June 2, 1942 – April 23, 2025 Michael John Stanczyk, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the University of Michigan Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old. Born on June 2, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to Stanley and Wanda Stanczyk, Mike was the eldest of his siblings: Robert Stanczyk (Mary), Wanda Moore (Dennis), Lori Buday (Ron), and Ron Stanczyk. After graduating high school, Mike proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. Following his service, he embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement, first as a police officer with the Detroit Police Department and later retiring as a Detective Sergeant from the Dearborn Police Department. On August 28, 1965, Mike married the love of his life, Sharon Helen Moskal. Together they shared 54 wonderful years filled with love, adventure, and friendship until Sharon’s passing in 2019. They raised a devoted family, traveled, enjoyed countless vacations, and cherished two decades of retirement together. Mike is survived by his two daughters, Diane Green (Tim Green) and Nancy Fite (Kevin Fite). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Lauren Ernat (Zach Ernat), Tim Green (Jessica Green), Carly Soper, McKenzie Fite, Chris Fite (Katie Fite), and Ashlyn Stein (Andrew Stein), as well as his thirteen great-grandchildren. A proud Navy veteran, Mike embraced life fully. He was an avid sportsman, playing football and baseball during his school years and later becoming a passionate fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Detroit Tigers. He found joy in the outdoors — hunting deer and duck, fishing, and spending countless happy days in the woods and on the lake he called home. A skilled pilot, Mike held a private pilot’s license and loved taking to the skies. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hale, where he was honored as a "Knight of the Round Table," a testament to his humor and the deep friendships he built throughout his life. Mike took immense pride in maintaining his independence, living at his lake home with his loyal dog, Val, right up until his final days. He lived a rich, fulfilling life centered around family, friendship, service, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys the world has to offer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial mass will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 409 W. Columbia Ave. Belleville, MI 48111, Friday May 2, 2025 Instate 10 AM with Mass at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
