Meghan T. McKinney

On the snowy morning of February 28, 1983, a beautiful baby girl, Meghan Theresa, came into the world. Her parents Dennis and Lisa (Hart) McKinney were overjoyed. At the age of 18 months Meghan went camping for the first time, thus began the tradition of Maple Bay. Described by many as the best 10 days of the year, friendships were formed that last to this day. It was in the tiny camper that Meghan mastered the art of baking morning sticky buns. As a young girl, Meghan began her babysitting career on Harbor Pointe. Her reputation for being responsible and fun loving kept her busy for many years, she rarely had a weekend off. Traveling to France, Monaco and Italy was the highlight of Meghan’s high school senior year. After graduating from high school and college Meghan embarked on a career as a patient representative. Working for Vital Care, Alcona Health and The Center for Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. Meghan was always praised for her strong work ethic. In the year 2010 Meghan became the mother to Brayden VanHorn. Brayden was the center of her entire world. Weekends were spent traveling Northern Michigan, in search of playgrounds, great lunches and beaches for swimming. Another pastime they enjoyed was sitting on Marmie’s porch watching the squirrels and chipmunks. Meghan loved volunteering for Brother Dan’s Food Pantry and the annual St. Francis Xavier fish fry. She was looking forward to taking over the baking station this Lenten season. Finally, on December 3, 2025, another snowy day, Meghan’s battle with poor health ended. She leaves behind her beloved son Brayden, her mother Lisa Andrews and the best stepfather (who she thought the world of), Richard Andrews, brother Casey (Holly) and nephews Parker and Eli, Aunts Darlene Sparrow and Arlene McKinney, Uncle Fr. Charlie Hart O.F.M., special cousins Cori and Ally Baldwin along with many more and special friends Michelle Babcock, Jo Lunt and Laura Peterson and Brayden’s father, Kevin Van Horn. Meghan was preceded in death by her father, Dennis McKinney, her grandparents Margaret and Donald Hart, George and Martha McKinney, Aunt Mary Ann and Uncle Neil Baldwin and Uncle Edward Hart. Memorial Visitation, Saturday, December 13, 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service at Holy Childhood Church of Jesus, 150 West Main Street, Harbor Springs, Michigan 49740. Donations in Meghan’s name may be sent to Brother Dan’s Food Pantry, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 415 State Street, Petosky, Michigan 49770. Arrangements for Meghan’s cremation were managed by Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home of Plymouth.
