Lidia Ungurean

Lidia Ungurean, 89 years old, passed away, peacefully, on May 13, 2017. Lidia was the matriarch of the family, and beloved wife of the late Moise Ungurean, mother to Olimpia (Ron) Warsaw, Doina (the late Ghita) Balean, Otilia (Basil) Bell, and Rodica (Ion) Tiplea, honorary daughter Anne (George) Paquet-Howard, proud and loving grandmother to Claudiu Lucian Coltea, John Daniel Muntean, Chris Balean, Florin Surlea, Daniel Tiplea, and Julian Tiplea, and great grandmother of twelve, sister to 9 siblings, sons and daughters in law, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who considered her an honorary family member. As a young widow in Romania, Lidia cared for her 4 daughters while blazing trails in a time when women were not expected to do so, becoming one of the first Directors of Communication for the Romanian Telegraph Administration. After immigrating to the United States in the early 1980’s she devoted her professional life to caring for others and worked at a retirement home, caring for others and winning numerous “best employee” awards for her love and dedication. After retiring, she spent much of her time loving and sharing with her family, reading daily scripture, spending time with her church family at the First Romanian Baptist Church of Troy, and taking care of her garden and pets she loved so much. She found joy in the big things, but also in all the small blessings of life, which she was grateful for everyday. She would often stop to look at a flower and mention how magnificent and beautiful God had made the world. Lidia was known to so many because of her unending kindness, love for God and all people, and smile - no matter the circumstances. The mere mention of her name would prompt people to say “I LOVE LIDIA! She is the sweetest and the best!” Her smile was as big as her heart, and her goodness never-ending. She would offer her last few dollars whenever she thought anyone needed it more than she did. She loved God above all, and her faith is a pillar to which many of us aspire to. Funeral Services Saturday 11 AM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 W. Ann Arbor Rd., (Between Sheldon and Beck) Plymouth. Visitation Friday 12-3 PM and 5-8 PM. Interment United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Romanian Baptist Church of Troy, 3244 John R Road, Troy, MI 48083.
