John Thomas Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away at his residence in Canton, Michigan, surrounded by his adoring family on April 27th, 2024. John was born on August 25, 1942, in Rockford, Illinois, to George and Margaret Martin, and his life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and treasured moments shared with friends and family. A pillar of unwavering support and devotion, John's legacy of love lives on through his cherished wife of 60 years, Dee Ann Martin, and their three children: Jeff Martin (Waleska Martin), Chris Timmis (Mike Timmis), and Greg Martin (Jill Martin). His influence extends to his grandchildren: Marisa, Mia, Christian, Blake, Sarissa (Chris), Sierra (Matt), Ian (Adriana), Alex and his great-grandchildren: Spencer, Ella, Austin, and a forthcoming addition to the family. Having retired as a medical sales executive, John seized each day with a singular focus on being present, nurturing, and actively participating in every aspect of his family's life. He found delight in life's simple pleasures, whether it was embarking on adventures with loved ones, teeing off on the golf course, or sharing laughs with his wife on the bowling lanes. An athlete in his own right, John derived immense joy from supporting his family's endeavors. He dedicated countless hours coaching his children in sports, imparting values of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. As time progressed, he transitioned into the role of the ultimate cheerleader on the sidelines, offering unwavering encouragement and applause to his grandchildren in their athletic, academic, and artistic pursuits. John's loyalty extended beyond his family to his beloved sports teams, the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, where he passionately cheered through victories and defeats alike. His life epitomized love, compassion, and benevolence, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we commemorate John's life, let us honor the legacy of love and happiness he leaves in his wake. Visitation Wednesday, May 1st, 5:00 to 8:00 PM. with a Scripture Service at 6:30 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (between Sheldon and Beck), Plymouth. Mr. Martin will Lie in State from 10:00 AM until the 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Thomas a' Becket Catholic Church, 555 South Lilley Road, Canton.
