Gaylon Ernest Pyle

It is our heartbreak to announce that Gaylon Pyle passed away on May 12, 2023. It is hard to convey how beloved Gaylon was by his family and friends. His warmth and playful sense of humor endeared him to everyone he encountered. He loved to laugh, finding delight in sharing even the corniest of jokes, and his optimism and loving nature made this world a better place. We are deeply blessed to have been a part of his life. Gaylon grew up in Detroit, attending Mumford High School, and later, Bentley High School after his family moved to Livonia. He got his bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Eastern Michigan University, and used it to build a successful consulting and training business that focused on the floral industry. Gay coached and trained many florists in the fundamentals of running a prosperous business, and felt a personal commitment to the success of each and every one of his clients. In his childhood and throughout his life, Gay loved sports and playing hockey, baseball and tennis. He relished collecting baseball cards during his youth, a hobby he shared with his younger brother, Kevin. The two of them spent many joyful hours discussing, admiring, and trading their cards. With his boyish heart, Gaylon cherished his card collection well into his adulthood. And he was the Michigan Wolverines’ biggest, most devoted football fan, never missing a game. But more than anything else, Gaylon was defined by his love for his family. There could be no more devoted a husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He adored his wife, Jan, the love of his life, and their 43-year marriage was unique in its strength and mutual devotion. He made every family Christmas Eve special by creating quizzes and games that kept the family laughing together. He showered his children and grandchildren with love and attention, playing games, teaching the fundamentals of tennis, helping with homework, and always being there for whatever was needed. His grandchildren will miss their precious Papa Gaylon, their favorite playmate. Gaylon, our grief is deep, but there is a wise adage that seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean. It gives us great comfort to know that you are with your father and brother now, who will love you as we love you until we’re all together again. In the meantime, we will find solace and gratitude in your legacy of goodness and love. Never good-bye, Gay – only Go Blue - until we meet again.
