Gary Anthony Lang, Born October 4th 1954 It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we share that our beloved father, Gary Anthony Lang, was called home to rest in paradise on December 27, 2025. As a man of God, he lived his life grounded in faith, believing deeply that life itself is a gift — one to be treasured, shared, and lived humbly with purpose. Standing at 6’7”, Gary had a truly magnanimous, larger-than-life presence — one that filled a room the moment he entered it. Though his stature was often the first thing to catch one’s attention, it was his kind and generous heart and welcoming spirit that stayed with people. With an unrivaled sense of humor and a natural way of engaging with others, he created moments that made people feel seen and welcomed — even if the playful razzing heard from his side of the line during a “scam likely” call might have occasionally suggested otherwise. Those within earshot always caught the humor of the moment. His loved ones were always at the center of his world. As a devoted father, he led with all of this heart, with complete selfless devotion, and deep love. As a proud Pop-pop, he found immense joy in his grandchildren, delighting in their laughter and cherishing their time spent together — occasionally exercising his “Pop-pop privileges” by sneaking them a little extra candy (and of course, a lot of love). By trade, Gary was a skilled craftsman who took great pride in laying ceramic tile and marble. He approached his work with precision, patience, and deep respect for the craft and creating something of meaning and quality. He loved to point out his creative work at popular sites such as the Fischer Building, the Ford Plant and local department boutiques. When driving about locally with his family, it wasn't uncommon for him to ask “you see that building over there? To which he would then say, “I tiled it”. Eventually, his children would answer him, “you tiled it” before he could finish his sentence. Creative by nature, he loved to make things, build, and tinker — finding satisfaction in working with his hands. His latest work-in-progress? A tremendous shed in his backyard, or perhaps more appropriately coined as “the man cave”. More than the finished work, it was the care behind it that mattered most. He believed in doing things well because it mattered and was a representation of himself, and in that way, his work — much like his love — made the lives of those around him better. He also loved music, finding joy and connection in the songs that accompanied his life. Music was another way he expressed himself and brought people together. He often played music when driving around with his grandchildren and fostering their love of various songs such as his grandson Elijah’s love of “Ode to Big Blue” by Gordon Lightfoot. Speaking of his many loves, Gary was a devoted Detroit Lions fan, supporting his team with the same loyalty and perseverance he showed in life. Through every season, he watched with hope, humor, and the confident belief that “this year was the year” — a gentle reminder that faith often lives in the unseen. Above all, Gary was a devoted father, beloved brother, uncle, cherished friend, and proud Pop-pop. His faith, wit, creativity, and larger-than-life presence leave a legacy that lives on in the family he adored and in all those who loved, appreciated and walked alongside him throughout his earthly life. Gary always told his children that life was a gift. Though we grieve his passing, we give God thanks for the gift of his life — a life that reminds us that love endures, laughter heals, and faith carries us home. Gary was called home, surrounded by his loved ones on December 27th 2025 and was preceded in death by parents Walter Sr., Pocahontas, sisters Angela and Cheryl, and nephew Julian. Gary is remembered warmly by his children Jason (Tanya), Jessica (Kazutoshi) and their mother Linda Lang; his brothers Walter Jr. (Carol) and Brett (Arika); his grandchildren Mackenzie, Hiro and Elijah; his nieces and nephews Alexis, Porsha, Alana, Paige, Jonah and Elyse (Bonnie), Brett “ZZ”, Kimber and many more loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
