Edward J. Furdak

Edward Furdak passed away peacefully on December 30, 2021 in the presence of his family. Born in Detroit to Joseph and Anna (Succotch) Furdak, Ed grew up in Dearborn and attended Fordson High School. He matriculated to the University of Michigan where he swam on the varsity team and in 1955 earned a degree in civil engineering. After graduation Ed attended the Aviation Officer Candidate Program, where he received his wings as a naval pilot in 1957. He served his country for over 35 years in the Naval Reserve, ultimately commanding two air squadrons. Ed remained active in the Navy, coordinating candidate selection for the U.S Naval Academy. Captain Furdak retired in 1994. Concurrently, Ed worked at Ford Motor Company, where he developed the company’s Master Supply Plan which coordinated a nationwide system of parts distribution and retired after 30 years. Ed married Rita Spigarelli, his wife for 62 years. Their love story continued through his final day with her at his side. They cherished every moment spent with friends and family at home, on the shores of Lake Michigan, and in Bonita Springs, Florida. Ed was the devoted father of Susan (m. Scott Baldwin) of Northville, MI and Robert (m. Kirsten Ecklund MD) of Wellesley, MA and the proud grandad of Michael, Andrew, and Daniel Baldwin and Abigail and Ethan Furdak. Ed avidly followed the stock market and enjoyed travel, food, and adventure throughout his life. He devoted his life to the Catholic faith. Ed approached all with an outpouring of love, generosity, humility, and wisdom. He saw each of us as God intended for us to be seen—with our talents, our gifts, and our imperfections. A funeral mass will be conducted at Our Lady of Good Council Church in Plymouth at 10 AM Saturday, January 8, 2022. Visitation at 9:00 AM at the church will precede the mass. Masks are required.
