Edward D. Blevins

Edward Darrell Blevins was a beloved husband, father, and friend. He was a multi-talented, karaoke singing, hot rod customizing extraordinary man. He passed away at 80, on December 1st. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Carolyn Blevins; two children Carol Blevins and Jackie Christie; Siblings Nina Williams (deceased), Gail Foster (deceased), Raymond Blevins (deceased), Ella D Blevins (81, Indiana), Janet C Billups (77, Arkansas), Audrey M. Stock (73, Michigan), Connie L Blevins (69, Michigan), Thomas J Blevins (63, Michigan and wife Kelly); plus, many beloved nieces and nephews. and his two grand-puppers Brooklyn (Paco) and Luna (Moon Dog); Zolo (deceased). Born on July 28, 1944, in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was the son of the Late Edward D. Blevins and Thelma Blevins (Hensley). The family was very creative & musical, and that translated throughout his life. Double trouble (Edward) Darrell and Sister Ella Dean were so close people thought they were twins, where he went, Ella Dean went. They had one bike, and Dean would ride on the U-shaped handlebars as he peddled the bike. They even entered dance contests together. Then Gail was born and joined in on the fun. Darrell grew up in a house full of girls/sisters and a younger brother Tommy. The family remained close throughout the years. Hot Rods and Drag Racing was a passion. Around 1965, he won his first trophy. Racing his 1965 GTO Pontiac 4 Speed with a 389 motor, painted Midnight Blue. He had the best time for his class the entire year, which was the E Class Stock Bracket. Earning him the nickname Fast Eddie!! He won so many trophies they lined three walls of his garage. His teen sister would hold the trophy in the rear window after the race. Famous drag racer Arnie Beswick took Ed under his wing at the Detroit Dragway. Giving Ed advice for drag racing and even gave him a set of tires and had the crew guys put on the tires. Karaoke became popular and Ed loved to sing the night away. Plus, he would host karaoke parties in his home with his wife Carolyn, which there is a "Wall of Shame" full of pictures of good friends and family Misbehaving! Edward is a GM retiree and was a Committee Man at the Detroit GM plants in Romulus, Drayton Plains and UAW Senior Union Representative, he had the ability to see things from both sides, he was a great mediator and negotiator. He was able to save the job of many who had really deserved to be fired. He would tell them "You need to pull it together from here out" before negotiating to save their job. The UAW flew Edward across the country to various important meetings and seminars. He was a member of "America's Most Wanted Car Club. Teaming up with the car club in their hot rods to travel to host cities throughout the USA, plus local car shows. In which he would often win trophies for best car. Known to be a loving Dad, showing care, love, and support. He wanted the best for his children. His love for his wife Carolyn was undeniable, always together, always by her side. One in a Billion.... creative, warm, bright, and funny. Everything he did he did with pride and integrity. He built a great life and he lived life as he wanted. Plus, he traveled near and far with very good friends & family. Exploring Hawaii, St. Thomas, Florida, Tennessee, and Las Vegas to name a few. Edward attended Briarwood Baptist church in Ann Arbor. He was a man of faith throughout his life. Ed Lived a full and fulfilling life defined by his passions, talents and dedication to friends and family. Everything he did he did with pride and integrity. Edward built a great life and he lived life as he wanted. He will be deeply missed by friends and family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8th from 2 PM until 5 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (between Sheldon and Beck) Plymouth. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 9th at 11 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment will take place following the service at United Memorial Gardens, Superior Township.
