Dolores Berkoben

Dolores Berkoben, age 88, of Plymouth, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025. Born on August 22, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Jane (née Kornacki) Gogola. Dolores graduated from Cody High School in Detroit in 1955. She was a member of Cody High School’s first graduating class. She met the love of her love, Kenneth Berkoben, when they both worked at Kresge Dime Store in Detroit. Later, they both worked at Burroughs in Plymouth. On July 14, 1956, Dolores and Kenneth were married at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Detroit. They were married 69 years and together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love, as reflected in her favorite psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…” — Psalm 23 Throughout her life, Dolores worked in a variety of roles, including as a Kresge photo booth operator, a secretary at Burroughs, an insurance claims assistant, and school office personnel. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and devotion to those around her. Dolores had impeccable decorating taste and took great pride in her home. She kept Hallmark in business as she never forgot to remember a birthday or special occasion for family and friends. She studied the cards in the store to find the perfect one. A faithful member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Canton, Dolores enjoyed a rich spiritual life and especially valued her time spent in Bible study. Her hobbies brought her joy and included gardening, sewing, crocheting, cross-stitching, playing Scrabble and cards. Dolores is lovingly remembered by her children: Doreen (Don) Jean Ball and Linda (Gary) Beth Davis; grandchildren: Caitlin (Ahmad) Ball, Don (Bailye) Ball, Whitney (Tim) Finch, Brandon (Danielle) Davis, Kevin Davis, and Justin (Samara) Davis; and her great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Lexie, Ashton, Abraham, Rivers, Leland, and Lyla. She is also survived by her sister, Theresa Alexia; brother-in-law, Jerry Alexia; and was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Gogola. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Road, Canton, Michigan. Dolores will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:30 AM.
