Cynthia Alison Kabza Vercruysse

Cynthia Alison Kabza Vercruysse, was born on March 17, 1950, and died on April 3, 2025, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39.5 years, Robert M. Vercruysse. A loving mother of Gary Vercruysse, Nicole (Kevin) Nemec, Anne-Marie (Rob) Welch, and her adoring cat Cozette Faye; and grandmother of Claire, Alec, Jacob, Thomas, Addison, Alexandria, and Amelia. Cynthia is also survived by her sister Lesley (Dan) Criscenti and her brother Julian Kabza, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Cynthia grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and enjoyed sailing in the summers at Brown Ledge Camp in Vermont, sewing, cooking, playing violin, and taking care of numerous animals, including an iguana. She graduated from the University of Michigan earning a BA in History with an emphasis on Chinese Studies. A lifelong learner, she completed post graduate course work in economics, marketing, public policy, French, and wine tasting. A Senior Professional in Human Resources, Cynthia proudly worked her entire career for the University of Michigan Human Resources Department. She retired as the Director of Executive Search and Career Services in 2003. During her distinguished career she earned various awards, including the Midwest Individual Award of Excellence in Human Resource Administration and the University of Michigan Business and Finance Distinguished Staff Award. She did not sit idly in retirement. Cynthia served as Chair of both the Plymouth Community Arts Council and Giving Hope, Women’s Giving Circle. When Cynthia was not at work or volunteering, she enjoyed spending time at the cottage, watching her grandchildren play sports and perform, caring for her beloved cat, playing bunco with her friends, gardening, improving recipes, helping others, finding the perfect shade of lipstick, and providing her opinions on current events to news sources, politicians, and anyone else she felt needed to be informed. She will be missed by all who knew her. We will celebrate Cynthia’s life on Tuesday, April 15th beginning with a Vigil and Visitation at 10:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 47650 N Territorial Rd, Plymouth, MI 48170.
