Charles "Chuck" Henry Kettenbeil

Chuck was born on December 23, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, to parents William and Zelma Kettenbeil. He had one brother, Bill, who is deceased. Chuck attended Redford High School and Lutheran High School West, both in Detroit. He married Sandy Paslawski on May 12, 1967, meeting her through friends. Sandy and Chuck had two children, Ken and Jeff. Ken is married to Kelley and they have one son, Ian. Jeff is married to Shannon and they have two sons, Brandon and Kyle. Chuck also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Bob Paslawski and sister-in-law, Sharon Grysko and their families and many friends. Chuck spent 30 years working at Ford Motor Company. His jobs included hi-lo driving, repair, inspection and other responsibilities at both the Ford Rouge and Wixom Assembly plants. Chuck also installed carpet on the side and was also willing to lend a hand with small, home improvements projects for family and friends. Chuck also liked woodworking and built furniture, kitchen items, birdhouses and many other handcrafted pieces. Chuck was an avid hunter and fisherman. If the animal flew, hid, ran or swam, it was fair game! The results of his efforts are proudly displayed in the basement of his home. His mountings include ducks, pheasants, geese, grouse, deer, raccoons, squirrels, a wild boar and numerous fish. Chuck was “at home” in the woods in Lake City, Michigan, near the site of his boyhood family cottage, or on a boat in Lake Erie. It is not surprising he rarely missed an episode of his favorite television show - Michigan Outdoors. When Chuck wasn’t in the woods or on the water you could find him feeding the squirrels and birds in his backyard. Chuck was also a car enthusiast. On weekends you could find him at car shows all across metro Detroit. He always looked forward to the Woodward Dream Cruise, the Telegraph Cruise and the Cruising Hines events each year. Chuck served as president, for a time, of his Plymouth Car Club. As a young adult he owned many muscle and classic cars including a 1966 midnight blue GTO and yellow 1957 Chevy. He currently owns a 1937 Ford, affectionately known as “Ladybug.” Chuck loved his family. He was appreciative of the many efforts of his wife that kept a household of boys fed, clean and on-track in life. He was proud of the many accomplishments of his sons. Chuck enjoyed family get-togethers, whether it was passing out lottery scratch-off tickets to each person as they entered his home for Christmas Eve, carving and sampling the Thanksgiving turkey or just relaxing with a Honey Brown beer at one of his grandson’s birthday parties, you could find a smile on is face. Chuck was often the life of the party and never met a person he did not feel comfortable talking with. Chuck, Charlie, dad, pops, grandpa, and friend – you will forever be in our hearts.
