Carol Benner

Carol Ann Benner (nee Hill) age 89, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024 in Forest Grove, Oregon. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. Carol was born on August 6, 1935 in Detroit, MI. She graduated from Denby High School and went on to attend Michigan State Normal College. Carol later worked in the School of Music at the University of Michigan while her husband attended law school. Carol lived in Detroit and surrounding suburbs for many years before the young Benner family moved to Ohio and eventually the suburbs of Milwaukee, WI. It was there that Carol spent over 40 years continuing to raise her 3 children. She became a Cub Scout Leader, Room Parent in elementary school and was very involved in her church community. For many years she worked in retail and as a Volunteer Coordinator at the local hospital. Carol had many interests including obtaining a Master Gardner Designation, volunteer and member of the Humane Society. She supported and attended Community Theater. Carol loved to read and enjoyed vacationing in beautiful Door County Wisconsin. She also loved to decorate her home for every holiday and even made time to volunteer over 4,000 hours of her time at the local hospital. 11 years ago Carol moved to Forest Grove, Oregon to be near her daughter Teri and the youngest grandchildren. There was no greater joy to Carol than her family; she loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Carol is survived by children Steve (Janet) Benner of Lakeville, MN; Teri (Curtis) Friedl of Forest Grove, OR; her six grandchildren Grant (Ali) Benner; Allison (DJ) Carlson, Hayley (Kyle) Horsch; Devin Benner, Colin & Molly Friedl, four great-grandchildren Archie & Sylvie Carlson, Oliva & Penny Horsch, Brother in law Robert Conrad of Plymouth, Michigan, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Craig and her sister Patricia Conrad. Visitation Saturday, January 18th at 10 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Service at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 46250 Ann Arbor Road West, Plymouth, Michigan 48170. Interment will be at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Michigan, next to her parents and sister. Arrangements made by Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, Plymouth, Michigan. Memorial contributions in Carol’s honor can be made to American Heart Association American Stroke Association, Post Office Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692 or a local humane society of your choice.
