Betty Elaine Hankins

Hankins, Betty Elaine (nee Livengood) age 100, passed away in her sleep on July 12, 2024. She was born in March 6, 1924, in Connellsvile (Fayette County), Pennsylvania to Linnie Irene (nee Engle) and Robert Jerimiah Livengood. Betty married David Alexander Hankins in 1948 in Pennsylvania and worked as a bookkeeper most of her life. Near retirement, she moved to Hohenwald, Tennessee where she founded a much-needed food and clothing bank supporting the Lewis County community. Betty retired upon moving back to Michigan and enjoyed sewing and socializing. Betty made a quilt for every one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and contributing to her church’s mission; making clothing, hats and various items for the shoe boxes sent to orphaned children overseas. Betty is survived by her children; Elaine (Hankins) Miller, Patty Ann (Hankins) Frutchey, Penny (Hankins) Galyon and David Hankins. Grandchildren; David Galyon, Jay Galyon, Amy (Miller) Jordan, Melissa (Miller) Potbury, Daryl Frutchey, Derek Frutchey, Robin (Frutchey) Hicks, Kelly (Frutchey) Bachi, Michelle Frutchey, Dakota Shane Hankins, Garrett Aaron Hankins, and great grandchildren; Serenity Hankins, Brayden Potbury, Kayla Potbury, Elayna Jordan, Delia Jordan, Celia Jordan, Will Jordan, Parker Frutchey, Claire Frutchey, 13 step-great grandchildren, 15 step great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by Rexann Renee Frutchey, her three siblings and parents. Betty will be remembered by family and friends as a strong- willed woman who cared deeply about her family and enjoyed supporting her church’s outreach efforts. Her giggles were contagious, and she always had a positive but realistic word of advice. She lived independently until she reached 100, afterwards, her youngest daughter, Patty, took care of her until her passing. Visitation on Sunday, July 21st 1-6 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 980 N. Newburgh Road (between Ford Road and Cherry Hill) Westland. Funeral Service on Monday July 22nd at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment United Memorial Gardens in Superior Township, Michigan.
