Andrew Dodge

Andrew Jerome Dodge was born October 3, 2024 at only 25 weeks gestation. He is survived by a family of two loving parents, Jason and Dyana and three brothers Owen, Henry, and Leo. His memory will also be carried by his grandparents Ryan and Gloria Guthrie and Michael and Beth Dodge, as well as 2 aunts, 3 uncles, and 8 cousins. While his time here on earth was brief, he lived a meaningful life, was loved by his community, and brought joy to those around him. Andrew was thoughtfully named after Jesus’ first apostle Saint Andrew and the Venerable Jerome LeJeune. Saint Andrew the Apostle was the first called by Jesus to follow him and brought many to faith in Christ. Jerome LeJeune was a French pediatrician who discovered the genetic link to Down Syndrome. As a devout Catholic, Dr. LeJeune fought fiercely for the dignity of life of those with genetic conditions, most especially the unborn. Our precious Andrew’s life gave witness to the important work of his two namesakes and intercessors. Born beautifully with Down Syndrome, our Andrew exemplified the worthiness of human life, no matter how brief or challenging the journey. Like Saint Andrew the Apostle, our Andrew’s life allowed those along his path to witness the depth and strength of a love shaped by faith in God. Andrew Jerome was baptized in Christ on his third day of life. He carried many crosses in his short lifetime but did so with the resilience of a child loved by God. A truly incredible team of doctors and nurses at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital advocated for his life and provided him every opportunity possible to grow and thrive. He experienced many highs and lows, but always clearly showed us his desire to continue to fight for his life. On November 26, 2024, after 54 days of life, Andrew revealed to us that he was ready to return to his maker in heaven. He went home to the Lord in the arms of his parents and surrounded by a wider family that had given immeasurable support in both physical and spiritual ways. We will always cherish God’s gifts to us through Andrew Jerome: Faith, Hope and Love—and the greatest is Love. Andrew Jerome Dodge’s life will be celebrated through a funeral mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth, Michigan on Friday December 6, 2024. All those who supported Andrew and his family are invited to attend. Those wishing to attend may gather beginning at 10 o’clock in the morning for an 11 o’clock mass with luncheon to follow.
