Stella Katherine Ochotny

Stella Nalepka Ochotny, age 90 of Ann Arbor, formerly of Detroit, died September 26, 2004 in Sterling Heights, Michigan after a long illness. She is the beloved wife of the late Stephen; and the dear mother of Arthur S. (Marcia) Ochotny; Marcella Stella (Gerald) Langwerowski; and Sandra Ann (Paul) Valovick. She also leaves eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters. Stella was born in Chicago, and also lived in French Landing; in Detroit, where she lived most of her life; and also in Ann Arbor. She attended catholic schools, where she spoke only Polish. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Detroit for over 50 years. She also had been a member of senior clubs at St. Thomas Aquinas, SS. Peter and Paul, and St. Christopher. Stella had many interests throughout her life, chief of which was her family. Her selflessness was exhibited at an early age, when she left her Catholic School upbringing so she could help with her parents' growing family at home. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She delighted her grandchildren at "vacations" at her house, where she gave them lots of attention and offered them King Dons as treats. Stella enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and she also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and cleaning. She also loved music, especially polkas and obereks. She loved Christmas traditions - decorating, baking, pierogi making, and Christmas Eve dinner - Wigilia. She will be greatly missed by all who love her. Visitation will be held Thursday 2 - 9 PM at Vermeulen Trust 100 Funeral Home, 46401 West Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth (between Sheldon and Beck.) She will be in state 9:30 AM Friday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 7685 Grandville in Detroit (north of Warren, east of Evergreen.) Interment will be at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights. A funeral luncheon will be held at DeLuca's Restaurant following the interment.
